Best CFL Picks Today: Week 1 Props and Best Bets

For Week 1, we’re focused on a pair of prop betting opportunities involving two teams that featured strong offenses in 2024 and for which expectations are even higher in the new season. Let’s get started.

Shemar Bridges Higher Than 49.5 Receiving Yards

Bridges enjoyed a breakout campaign in his 2024 CFL rookie season, rocketing to an 82-916-4 line in 15 games. The big-bodied wideout utilized his 6-foot-4 dimensions to become one of Bo Levi Mitchell’s most reliable targets in a resurgent season for the veteran quarterback, and the two are reunited again in 2025.

The season-opening matchup against the Stampeders has high offensive expectations, considering the very capable Vernon Adams now has the reins of Calgary’s offense and should be able to keep the pressure on Hamilton with his own experienced, deep group of pass catchers.

The Stamps conceded seven receptions for 85 yards to Bridges on 11 targets back in his CFL debut in Week 1 of last season, and Calgary surrendered the third-highest completion percentage (70%) in the league a year ago. Bridges averaged eight targets per game in 2024 and eclipsed this yardage figure in 10 of his 15 games, making it a very playable bet to open the season with.

Nathan Rourke Higher Than 303.5 Passing + Rushing Yards

Rourke worked around a mid-season Lisfranc injury in 2022 to throw for 3,349 yards (on a CFL record 78.7% completion rate) while piling up 304 rushing yards. He added to that stellar campaign by accruing 32 total touchdowns in just 10 games.

Rourke then tried his luck in the NFL with the Jaguars, Patriots, Giants, and Falcons. Following his release by Atlanta last preseason, Rourke returned to Canada in 2024. He definitely had some rust, but the gunslinger finished with 1,781 passing yards and 213 rushing yards in eight games, good for an average of 249.3 pass + rush yards per contest.

That number obviously falls well short of this prop, but we’re now looking at what should be a refreshed Rourke, who’s had plenty of time to get fully re-immersed in the three-down game. Rourke should be raring to go right out of the gate against an Elks team that had the most vulnerable pass defense in the CFL last season.

Edmonton allowed a league-high 300 passing yards per game and 9.5 yards per attempt a season ago, and Rourke has a versatile target arsenal that includes 1,400-yard wideout Justin McInnis, accomplished veteran Keon Hatcher, reliable possession receiver Jevon Cottoy, and a highly capable pass-catching back in James Butler, all whom Rourke already has plenty of chemistry with.

This game has the second-highest projected total (49.5 points) of the three remaining Week 1 contests, and Rourke’s efforts should be key to B.C. approximating or reaching its projected 27.5-point total.
