Where’s the top Underdog NBA value for today’s slate?
Kumar Rocker Higher Than 4.5 Hits Allowed (1.0x)
Rocker has had an interesting path to the major leagues. He was originally drafted 10th overall by the Mets in 2021, but he was not signed after the team had concerns with his physical. He was forced to undergo shoulder surgery later that year before signing with an Tri-City Valley Cats before the 2022 draft. This time, the Rangers selected him third overall, and he has since made it to the big leagues.
While that’s a nice success story, Rocker has not looked the part of an MLB pitcher so far this season. He’s struggled to a 7.94 ERA, and his 6.90 xERA puts him in the seventh percentile. He’s generated just six strikeouts across 11.1 innings, and when batters have made contact against him, they’ve done significant damage. Rocker ranks in the fifth-percentile for hard-hit rate and 25th percentile for barrel rate, so he may not stick around in Texas if his results don’t improve.
Rocker has allowed at least five hits in each of his first three starts, and there’s no reason to expect much different on Thursday. Opponents have managed a .335 expected batting average against him, which is one of the worst marks among qualified pitchers. He’s only pitched 3.1 innings or fewer in two of his three starts, yet he’s still allowed 5+ hits in both of them. Ultimately, this number is too generous.

Spencer Torkelson Higher Than 3.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (+2.39x)
Torkelson was once considered one of the top hitting prospects in baseball, and he broke out with 31 homers in 2023. It seemed like he would continue to progress from there, given his elite pedigree.
That’s not exactly what happen. Torkelson took a major step back last season, and he was even demoted to the minor leagues at one point. He ultimately finished with just 10 homers and a .219 batting average, so his numbers were down virtually across the board.
Fortunately for Detroit, Torkelson is back and better than ever in 2025. He’s already slugged six homers this season, and he’s making elite contact. He ranks in the 92nd percentile in xwOBA and the 96th percentile for xSLG, so there’s no reason to expect much regression moving forward. He draws a solid matchup Thursday vs. Michael Lorenzen, so I’m willing to target his upside scenario.
