Where’s the top Underdog NBA value for today’s slate?
Daniel Gafford Higher Than 14.5 Points (1.0x)
It’s pretty easy to be bullish on Gafford at the moment. He’s spent most of the year in a timeshare with Dereck Lively II, but Lively recently went down with an injury. He’s going to miss at least the next four weeks with a stress fracture in his right ankle, leaving Gafford to handle the majority of the center minutes moving forward.
Gafford has started the past four games in place of Lively, and he’s absolutely thrived in that role. He’s scored at least 27 points in two of those outings, and he’s averaged exactly 20 points per game in that stretch.
One of the games where he failed to crack 14.5 points was against the Thunder, and he’ll square off against them again on Thursday. OKC is a tough matchup, but foul trouble was the bigger culprit for his failure against them last Wednesday. He picked up five fouls, which ultimately limited him to just 20 minutes of court time. He’s played 30+ minutes in his other three recent starts, so he should see significantly more playing time if he can stay out of foul trouble on Thursday.
Ultimately, Gafford has played more than 27.5 minutes in six games this season, and he’s scored at least 15 points in five of them. He had 14 in the lone exception, so as long as he’s going to continue to play significant minutes, this number is too low. Even in a tough matchup, I’ll take my chances.

Trae Young Higher Than 14.5 Assists (2.98x)
Young has had a strong year for the Hawks after the team traded away Dejounte Murray this offseason. His scoring numbers are a bit down, but he’s had a career year as a distributor. He’s leading the league with 11.6 assists per game for the year, which represents a new career best.
Young has more upside than usual Thursday vs. the Raptors. They’ve struggled defensively all season, ranking just 27th in defensive efficiency. Young already has 10 games this season with at least 15 dimes, so I like the upside with an alternate number in this matchup.
