Top Underdog Pick’em Predictions: Saturday, Nov. 23

MORE PROPS: NFL | NBA | NHL | PGA | CFB

Anfernee Simons Lower Than 4.5 Assists

Simons returned to the Blazers’ lineup on Friday following a three-game absence, but his impact on the game was minimal. The Blazers suffered a 28-point defeat, and he was limited to just 21.5 minutes in the loss.

Simons should play a bit more if Saturday’s rematch is more competitive, but that’s far from a guarantee. The Rockets have played inspired basketball this season, and they’re currently the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference standings. They’re fifth in the league in Net Rating, trailing only the Cavaliers, Celtics, Warriors, and Thunder, so this could easily be another blowout.

Even if Simons does return to his usual workload, there’s no guarantee he gets to five assists. He’s averaged just 3.9 assists per game this season, and he’s had less than 4.5 assists in seven of his 13 outings.

The Rockets’ biggest strength is their defense. They’re second in the league in defensive efficiency, and they’re allowing the third-fewest points per game. No team has allowed fewer assists per game than the Rockets this season, so it’s as bad of a matchup as it possibly gets.

Add it all up, and I’m fine with selling Simons on the second leg of a back-to-back.

LaMelo Ball Higher Than 39.5 Points

Ball has always been an elite talent; he just hasn’t been able to stay on the floor. Between injuries and the Hornets tanking down the stretch, Ball has been limited to just 22 and 36 games played over his past two seasons.

The good news is that Ball is healthy at the moment, and he’s playing the best basketball of his career. He’s averaged 28.9 points per game through his first 15 contests, and he’s had at least 34 points on six separate occasions.

He’s yet to crack the 40-point plateau, but there’s a chance he can do it vs. the Bucks. They’ve shown some improvement of late, but Milwaukee has still been a subpar defensive team this season. Ball has also attempted at least 27 shots in five of his past seven games, so he has more than enough volume to get there.
