Sixers vs Hornets Prediction Today – Saturday, October 25
Saturday night NBA action brings us a fun matchup at Xfinity Mobile Arena—two undefeated teams, historic rookie performances, and a whole lot of questions about whether Joel Embiid can do literally anything productive.
We’ll have to talk about some VJ Edgecombe props today after he was unbelievable in his first career game earlier this week.
Both teams won their openers, but the narratives couldn’t be more different. Philadelphia survived Boston 117-116 thanks to VJ Edgecombe dropping 34 points in his NBA debut—the third-best scoring debut in league history and the most by a rookie since Wilt Chamberlain’s 43-pointer in 1959.
Meanwhile, Charlotte absolutely demolished Brooklyn 136-117 with nine players scoring in double figures (a franchise record) while shooting a stupid-good 47.2% from three-point range.
Sixers vs Hornets Odds
Looking for Sixers vs Hornets odds and lines?
The betting market’s giving Philly respect for their home court and 10-game win streak against Charlotte.
But here’s what everyone’s missing—Embiid played 20 minutes, scored 4 points on 1-of-9 shooting, and sat the entire fourth quarter of that comeback win. The Sixers won in spite of their superstar, not because of him.

Sixers Props and Prediction
Philadelphia is a two-man operation right now, and that’s both encouraging and absolutely terrifying.
Tyrese Maxey went full supernova against Boston with 40 points on 7-of-9 from three, including 19 points in the second quarter alone.
When Embiid sat the entire fourth in a one-point game, Maxey took over—making clutch shots, running the offense, doing everything you’d want from a max-contract guy. He’s playing with insane confidence and looks completely unbothered by the pressure.
Then there’s VJ Edgecombe, who might’ve just announced himself as a future All-Star. His 34-point debut included 14 points in the first quarter—an NBA record for most points in a debut quarter. He went 13-of-26 from the field with 5 triples and 7 rebounds, showing advanced shot selection and zero rookie jitters. The kid looks legit.
Now for the elephant in the room: Joel Embiid is cooked right now. I don’t mean long-term—I mean right this second, he cannot contribute.
He’s eight months removed from his second left knee surgery, played 20 minutes in his season debut, went 1-of-9 for 4 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and posted a minus-16.
Nick Nurse confirmed he’ll be on a similar minutes restriction tonight, hovering around 20 minutes again. That’s a big deal when we evaluate 76ers vs Hornets props.
Hornets Props and Prediction
Charlotte looked elite in their season opener. Not good—elite. They hung 77 points on Brooklyn in the first half, shot 53.3% from the field and 47.2% from three, and distributed the ball like they’ve been playing together for years. 33 assists on 48 made field goals is video game stuff.
LaMelo Ball orchestrated the entire operation with 20 points, 8 assists, and 4 triples. His pace, floor vision, and willingness to get teammates involved completely overwhelmed Brooklyn. He’s playing with supreme confidence and looks like a legitimate All-NBA candidate this season.
Brandon Miller was the real story though—25 points with 15 coming in the second quarter alone.
Coming off a wrist injury last year, Miller showed zero rust and looked like the best player on the floor. LaMelo kept finding him for alley-oops, and Miller converted everything. The chemistry between those two is already special, and that’s terrifying for the rest of the league.
Miles Bridges added 18 points and 11 rebounds while playing mistake-free basketball. Collin Sexton provided 15 points off the bench when Charlotte got sloppy in the third.
Rookies Ryan Kalkbrenner (10 points, 11 rebounds), Kon Knueppel (12 points), and Tidjane Salaün (10 points) all contributed in meaningful ways. That’s depth you can actually trust.
Charlotte’s big concern heading into this game is whether they can sustain that ridiculous shooting. 47.2% from three won’t happen every night—that’s just math.
But even if they regress to something more reasonable (say, 38-40%), they’ve got the offensive system and talent to score with anybody.
Sixers vs Hornets Prediction: Props and Picks Today
There are plenty of 76ers vs Hornets props to choose from on Underdog for Friday night’s slate of games. Let’s dive into the Sixers vs Hornets predictions!
VJ Edgecombe Props Today
- Higher Than 17.5 Points
Look, the rookie just dropped 34 in his debut. Will he repeat that? Probably not. But 17.5 feels low for a kid who scored 14 points in his first NBA quarter and clearly isn’t afraid of the moment. Plus, he had a massive 29% usage rate in the opener!
With Embiid limited and Paul George out, Edgecombe’s going to get 30+ minutes and plenty of shot attempts.
Brandon Miller Props Today
- Higher Than 19.5 Points
Miller was sensational in the opener, and he’s another player who’s looking poised to take another leap forward this season. He logged a gigantic 35% usage rate vs. Brooklyn. Embiid is on a minutes restriction, and Philly’s defense suffered without him over the past couple of seasons. Charlotte should feast when the big guy is on the bench.
