NBA Preseason Props Today: Friday, October 17th
Here’s the deal—this week is your last chance to gather intel before real money starts flying around.
Pay attention to who’s sitting out, who’s playing extended minutes in meaningless games (usually a bad sign), and which rookies are forcing their way into legitimate roles.
The coaches are still tinkering, but by Friday’s final slate, you’ll be seeing close to the real thing.
Here are our favorite NBA preseason player props for Friday, October 17!
Cam Thomas Higher Than 17.5 Points
Thomas has seen mixed results as a scorer for the Brooklyn Nets this preseason. He’s averaging 15.3 points in 22.2 minutes per game thus far. He’s also averaging 10.3 FGA, 3.0 3PA, and 5.3 FTA per game.
The young scorer only played 16.5 minutes in his first game, scoring 8 points. He’s played minutes in the mid-20s in his last two, and he’s looked much better. He scored 16 and 22 points in his last two games.
This will be the fourth game for Brooklyn, which is the same as last season. In 2024, starters saw major minutes in their final game, and we should see something similar tonight. If Thomas is getting minutes in the high-20s or low-30s, this total is a bit too low.

Austin Reaves Higher Than 20.5 Points
Reaves has looked outstanding for the Los Angeles Lakers this preseason. He’s averaging 22.0 points in only 24.9 minutes per game. He’s also averaging 12.3 FGA, 5.0 3PA, and 7.0 FTA per game.
The veteran played limited minutes in his first two games, but he still posted 20+ points in each game. He saw an expanded role in Los Angeles’ last game, scoring 25 points in 31 minutes. It is important to note that Luka Doncic only played in their last game, and he saw limited minutes.
JJ Redick already announced that he’ll use this game as a dress rehearsal. Starters are expected to play late into the third quarter, or even early into the fourth.
If that’s the case, we should get minutes in the high-20s for Reaves, which is more than enough time for him to find points, specifically with LeBron James injured.
