In this recurring feature, we will take a macro look at the upcoming slate from a DFS and betting perspective. While major sports like NFL, NBA and MLB will be highlighted often, we’ll also look at lesser-known markets.

Who knows, maybe you’ll get introduced to a new operator and/or sport that you love playing? That’s one of the primary goals here.

2:00 PM ET Update

Since our last update, Kel’el Ware has been ruled out for the Heat, while Jaime Jaquez Jr is doubtful and Andrew Wiggins is questionable.

For Portland, both Jerami Grant and Robert Williams have been ruled out and Deandre Ayton remains sidelined, meaning Donovan Clingan could see an extended role down low against the 76ers.

The rookie is averaging 12.4 points and 14.6 rebounds per 36 minutes in 47 games, 17 of which have been starts.

In Memphis, Ja Morant went through shootaround, which bodes well for his availability later tonight.

11:00 AM ET Update

The big injury news to come out recently is the injury to Domantas Sabonis, as he’s set to miss at least one week with a hamstring strain.

Jonas Valanciunas will step into the starting frontcourt, while Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk and Keegan Murray will be counted upon to carry the offense.

The Kings will do battle with the Mavericks, who will keep leaning heavily on Kyrie Irving with Anthony Davis, PJ Washington, Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford and Caleb Martin all out.

Irving just averaged 39.4 minutes, 27.8 points, 4.2 assists and a 28.7 usage percentage in nine February games (Basketball Reference), and then started off March with a bang, dropping 31 points in a home loss to the Bucks.

We’re also closely watching the Grizzlies/Hawks news, considering the O/U is at a massive 253.5 points. As of now, Ja Morant is questionable, and if he ends up sitting, we’d have a lot more interest in both Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane.

Jackson Jr. is averaging a career-high 27.9 points and 20.2 field goal attempts per 36 minutes through 58 games this season.

What Is DFS Pick’Em?

As you may know, daily fantasy sports have moved beyond simple tournaments and cash games.

Many DFS apps now offer more unique contests similar to player props in sports betting. They’re excellent alternatives if you don’t have legal sports betting sites in your state.

Even if you do have access to legal online sportsbooks, you might like DFS pick’em for something new. DFS sites have borrowed elements from the sports betting world to create engaging pick’em contests.

Pick’em requires you to choose “higher” or “lower” on player stats, such as points, rebounds, and three-pointers. For example, you may pick LeBron James to finish with more than 24.5 points on a certain site.

Very similar to prop bets available at legal online sportsbooks, it’s a perfect substitute for sports betting if you don’t have regulated sportsbooks in your state and may even be the preferable option.
