CFB Predictions Guide: Friday, Sept. 19

Let’s talk about an underdog and a game total under play I’m eyeing up for Week 4 on Friday.

Tulsa at Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State is worse than you think. Oklahoma State hasn’t been able to protect its QB (Zane Flores has been sacked twice in each game), and their offense has looked disjointed after getting handled by Oregon.

They’ve scored just 1 touchdown in their last 7 quarters. Tulsa looked competitive against Navy early in the game before falling apart in the second half. I’m putting Oklahoma State on upset watch.

Pick: Tulsa +13.5

Iowa at Rutgers

This one screams regression. Rutgers has been racking up points (139 through three games), but against Ohio, Miami (OH), and Norfolk State. Iowa is Iowa — suffocating defense, ugly offense. They managed just 13 points in their only real game vs. Iowa State.

The Hawkeyes will slow this down with 40+ rush attempts (they had 39 rush attempts vs Iowa State), while Rutgers’ efficiency offense likely comes back to Earth.

Pick: Under 46.5

CFB Week 4 Predictions: Saturday, September 20

Moving on to Saturday’s main slate. Let’s find some winners for Week 4.

No. 17 Texas Tech at No. 16 Utah

One of the best matchups of the weekend. Texas Tech’s offense has been electric behind Behren Morton (11 TDs, 923 yards), while Utah’s defense is still top-tier. Utah QB Devon Dampier has been steady, but Tech’s defensive line is legit.

It could turn into a chess match in the trenches.

Lean: Utah ML

No. 11 Oklahoma vs. No. 22 Auburn

Storyline game: Auburn QB Jackson Arnold faces his old school and his replacement, John Mateer. Oklahoma’s defense has been suffocating (second time in three games holding opponents to 3 points).

College Football Week 4 Predictions: Jackson Arnold

Mateer is a Hesiman hopeful, he’s the edge. Oklahoma has a bye next week and then plays lowly Kent State, so look for them to go all out before the break.

Pick: Oklahoma ML

CFB Preview: Week 4

Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, and Illinois are all in play on Saturday!

No. 21 Michigan at Nebraska

Bryce Underwood (Michigan) vs. Dylan Raiola (Nebraska) is QB theater — Underwood is the prized freshman, Raiola is already earning “mini Mahomes” comps.

Nebraska has quietly been solid on defense and enters 3-0. Michigan rolled Central Michigan last week, but that’s not the same test. This one feels like a coin flip; it should be close throughout.

Pick: Michigan ML

No. 6 Oregon vs. Oregon State

The Ducks look unstoppable, but 34.5 in a rivalry game? Oregon State looked lost against Texas Tech, but you know they’ll play desperately trying to avoid 0-4.

This is still a blowout waiting to happen, but the number is massive.

Pick: Oregon State +34.5

No. 9 Illinois at No. 19 Indiana

Indiana just covered their 48.5 point line on Indiana State last week while putting up 73 points in the shutdout. QB Fernando Mendoza looks the part.

Illinois has a road win at Duke on the résumé, but that came with a 5-0 turnover margin. If Indiana keeps its offense rolling, they’re the side.

Pick: Indiana -6.5

No. 8 Texas vs. Sam Houston

Arch Manning continues to be the story in Austin — he’s not just their QB, he’s their leading rusher and has all of Texas’ rushing touchdowns through three games.

That tells you both about Manning’s ability and Texas’ now concerning RB situation. Still, Sam Houston isn’t the spot to fade the Horns.

Pick: Texas -39.5

College Football Week 4 Predictions: Others To Watch

  • Florida at Miami: Lagway threw 5 INTs last week. Miami’s defense is improved, and their balanced attack should control this one. Lean Canes.
  • Notre Dame vs. Purdue: The Irish should finally get a win after two heartbreakers.
