Chicago Bulls Predictions and Preview
The Bulls kick off 2025-26 in transition. Their starting guard, Coby White, is out due to a calf strain and will miss the opener. That leaves Chicago without a primary playmaker and scorer for at least the early stretch.
On top of that, forward Zach Collins underwent wrist surgery and is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks. With White and Collins unavailable, Chicago’s rotation is untested and reliant on young or secondary players.
Guards Tre Jones and Ayo Dosunmu are expected to see increased minutes and responsibilities, while rookie forward Matas Buzelis enters with promise after a strong preseason showing.
He averaged ~18 points in the preseason and flashed three-level scoring, which hints he may have a more impactful role than many anticipated.
In preseason games, Chicago showed flashes of offensive creativity but had issues defending consistently and controlling the glass.
Without White to steer the tempo and Collins inside, this team will face tests early. Coach Billy Donovan will need his younger guys to step up, especially against a team like Detroit that projects to be more disciplined.
Detroit Pistons Predictions and Preview
Detroit arrives with something to prove—after a meaningful leap last season, the Pistons look like a young team ready to build on momentum rather than rebuild.
The trio of guard Cade Cunningham, forward Jalen Duren, and a smarter roster surrounding them has given Detroit more structure.
That said, Detroit will be without the services of guard Jaden Ivey, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and is out for the opener (and likely a few weeks).
This shifts more creation and ball-handling onto Cunningham, who must take a bigger leadership role early.
In the preseason, Detroit looked sharp: they defeated Washington 119-98 in their final tune-up, deploying much of their projected rotation and showing improved cohesion. Their interior defense stands out, and Duren looks poised to dominate the rebound battle.
Coach J. B. Bickerstaff appears to have drilled the team on maintaining pace and control rather than relying on raw run-and-gun transitions.
