The key is that high-end left-handed pitchers have found plenty of strikeouts against Boston, and their numbers are a bit skewed by easy matchups. On the other hand, the Red Sox posted 9 earned runs against both of them, flashing plenty of offensive firepower.
While those are the two elite arms to find strikeouts against Boston, that doesn’t mean no one else has. Easton Lucas (8) and Cade Povich (8) also beat this number, and they’ve both proven to be less-than-dominant arms as the season progresses.
I’ll continue to attack Sale’s strikeout numbers as he continues to find positive regression. Even if he struggles in this game, he’s a pitcher who can post 8+ strikeouts while allowing baserunners.
