There are a plethora of reasons to use Sleeper Fantasy’s “Picks” product, but two stand above the rest.

First, Sleeper Picks has variable payouts. Sleeper’s payout changes based on the plays you pair together. The operator doesn’t have the same static numbers as some other sites, which allows you to create plays based on your risk tolerance.

Second, Sleeper has alternate player projections. This creates an option more similar to a sportsbook, which allows you to make picks on different “milestones” for players rather than one specific number. For example, you can predict someone to score 20+, 25+, 30+, etc. points.

The variable projections allow you to get different payouts for these milestones. Sleeper Picks gives you the option to create specific plays you want rather than a somewhat limited number of projections being available.

The combination of variable payouts and alt picks lets the user create a wide range of plays as desired.

Sleeper Fantasy Picks Today – Friday, May 16

Now that you have more information about Sleeper Picks, it’s time to see if we can find some value in the lobby.

Every day you’ll find a new set of our top plays across multiple sports.

Chris Sale More Than 7.5 Strikeouts

Sale’s seen mixed results early this season, but that doesn’t change that he’s an elite arm with incredible strikeout upside. He owns a 30.2% strikeout rate with a 12.1 K/9 through 47.2 innings. He also boasts 14.3% swinging-strike and 31.3% CSW rates.

The veteran is due for positive regression, as his 3.97 ERA sits well above his 3.16 xFIP through 9 starts. As he throws deeper into games, he’ll post more strikeouts, considering he ranks in the 88th and 90th percentile in the league in chase and whiff rates.

The left-hander gets an interesting matchup against the Boston Red Sox tonight. They’re only striking out at the 13th-highest rate (23.8%) in the MLB against left-handed pitching. The Red Sox have also dominated lefties.

The key is that high-end left-handed pitchers have found plenty of strikeouts against Boston, and their numbers are a bit skewed by easy matchups. The only two good lefties they’ve faced this season have been Tarik Skuball (11) and Cole Ragans (8), who both beat this number. On the other hand, the Red Sox posted 9 earned runs against both of them, flashing plenty of offensive firepower.

While those are the two elite arms to find strikeouts against Boston, that doesn’t mean no one else has. Easton Lucas (8) and Cade Povich (8) also beat this number, and they’ve both proven to be less-than-dominant arms as the season progresses.

I’ll continue to attack Sale’s strikeout numbers as he continues to find positive regression. Even if he struggles in this game, he’s a pitcher who can post 8+ strikeouts while allowing baserunners.
