JAHMYR GIBBS MORE THAN 75.5 RUSHING YARDS
The Detroit Lions welcome their division rival Minnesota Vikings to Ford Field on Sunday, entering as 8.5-point home favorites.
With JJ McCarthy expected to return under center for Minnesota, Detroit is in prime position to control this game from start to finish. McCarthy struggled in his first NFL action earlier this season and now makes his first start since suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 2. That combination of rust and inexperience should allow the Lions’ defense to dictate the tempo early, setting up a positive, run-heavy game script as the afternoon unfolds.
Minnesota’s once-formidable run defense has taken a clear step backward in 2025, ranking 24th in both rushing yards allowed and rushing success rate, while sitting 22nd in EPA per rush. That’s a significant mismatch against Detroit’s physical offensive line and explosive backfield duo.
Lead running back Jahmyr Gibbs is coming off his best performance of the season, where he shredded a stout Tampa Bay front for 136 yards on the ground.
With the Lions projected to play from ahead, Gibbs should see a steady dose of carries throughout the game. Although he’s surpassed 75.5 rushing yards just three times this season, all signs point to another breakout performance.
In an ideal game environment and a favorable matchup, Gibbs is perfectly set up to clear that projection for the fourth time this season.
JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA MORE THAN 7.5 RECEPTIONS
Jaxon Smith-Njigba already owns one of the most dominant pass-catching roles in football, and circumstances have aligned for an even larger workload this week.
The Seahawks’ receiver room is decimated by injuries, with Jake Bobo and Dareke Young already being ruled out this week. Now, it has been reported that Cooper Kupp (questionable) is considered unlikely to play.
That leaves rookie Tory Holton as the de facto No. 2 option, but he has logged fewer than 50% of the snaps this season and has failed to command even a 10% target share. Beyond him, Seattle’s remaining depth consists of practice squad call-ups and tight ends, meaning Smith-Njigba is virtually guaranteed a massive share of the passing game.
JSN already leads the league with a 34.7% target share, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see that number climb even higher in this matchup. Washington’s defense has been a favorable opponent for opposing passing attacks, surrendering the sixth-most passing yards per game this season. Smith-Njigba’s elite route-running and separation ability make him a nightmare matchup for the Commanders’ secondary.
With volume, talent, and matchup all aligning, the conditions are ideal for another high-output performance. Smith-Njigba has recorded at least eight receptions in five of seven games this year, and he is well positioned to do it again.
