Best Batter vs Pitcher Matchups Today
Here’s some insight on today’s top 5 model plays!
- Sean Murphy (ATL) vs Jose Quintana (MIL)
Murphy’s sitting on a legitimate .347 ISO this season – that’s not a typo, that’s elite thunder in his bat. Quintana’s been getting absolutely torched by righties, and Murphy gets the perfect platoon advantage as a right-handed stick. Plus, we’re at Truist Park, where the ball carries better than your average ballpark.
- Yandy Diaz (TBR) vs Tyler Anderson (LAA)
Anderson is a lefty, but he’s actually WORSE against left-handed hitting – one of those reverse-split guys that the market always misprices. Diaz, as a right-handed stick, gets to face Anderson’s better side, but “better” is relative when you’re talking about a pitcher who’s been getting torched all season.
- Ernie Clement (TOR) vs Kyle Freeland (COL)
Clement has been absolutely unconscious this season – 157 wRC+ vs. LHP is legitimately elite production. Freeland has been getting crushed by righties all year, and now we get to watch it happen at high altitude.
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (TOR) vs Kyle Freeland (COL)
Vladdy is crushing southpaws with a 162 wRC+ against them this season. Same vulnerable pitcher in Freeland, same Coors Field advantage. The difference between Vlad and Clement is mainly the power profile, but we’re splitting hairs between elite options.
- Pete Alonso (NYM) vs Gavin Williams (CLE)
Alonso proves that elite individual talent can overcome neutral platoon matchups when facing genuinely vulnerable pitching. His 156 wRC+ (vs. RHP) with serious thump gives him the firepower to exploit Williams.
