We asked our Props analyst, Justin Bales, to come up with his best CFB ladder bet for Week 3. If you’re not familiar with this kind of bet, don’t worry, we’ll break it down.
A ladder bet is essentially betting on a prop at multiple lines with the odds getting progressively larger the further up the ladder you go.
We’ve done the research for you here and below we’ll dive into all of the rationale for this CFB ladder bet for Week 3.
Kevin Coleman Receiving Yards Ladder
Coleman’s in the midst of a dominant season for Mississippi State. He posted 9 receptions for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 targets through 2 games. He’s also recorded 88+ receiving yards in both of those games.
Coleman recorded 88 yards on only 20 routes against Eastern Kentucky. He saw 17 of those routes from the slot. He played 37 passing snaps (33 routes) in Week 2 against Arizona State. He recorded 103 yards in that game, playing every snap in the slot.
Coleman’s a bit of a specific type of receiver. He relies heavily on yards after the catch, as over 60% of his yards have come after the catch this season. Seven of his 10 targets have come within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, while only two have been over 20 yards down the field.
Coleman gets a good matchup against Toledo tonight. Toledo is playing at the seventh-fastest pace in the NCAA through two weeks. They’ve also struggled a bit, allowing 6.5 yards per pass attempt in 2024.
Toledo had an easy matchup against Duquesne in Week 1. John Erby, who plays the majority of his snaps out of the slot, still found plenty of success. He posted 6 receptions with 67 yards on 7 targets in that game.
Toledo had another easy matchup against Massachusetts in Week 2. The slot receivers didn’t take over in this game, but UMass threw for 259 yards. If bad offenses can find success against Toledo’s pass defense, imagine what a real offense will do.
Mississippi State is by far the best team that Toledo will have played early this season. They should be able to find success in basically any way they want. Early on, they’ve relied heavily on Blake Shapen, whose top option is Coleman.
Coleman comes with game-changing speed, as he recorded an 80-yard touchdown in Week 2 against Arizona State. We could see more explosive plays tonight, as Toledo doesn’t have the athletes to keep up with him.
I’m expecting Mississippi State to get the ball into Coleman’s hands early in this game to allow him to work in space. He comes with plenty of upside, and he’s an outstanding ladder option this weekend.
