New Hampshire Online Betting

Last Updated: December 12, 2022

New Hampshire online betting is legal and live, at least in a couple of forms. Bettors can access an online sportsbook to make wagers, and daily fantasy sports sites can also launch.

Unfortunately, lawmakers in New Hampshire have not yet approved online casino sites or online poker of any kind. It’s unclear if this will be in the plans for the state in the future, but don’t expect these sites to launch anytime soon.

Online horse betting sites have been legal for years, but the state recently added DFS and online sports betting. Unfortunately, despite allowing online sports betting, bettors in New Hampshire will find minimal options.

New Hampshire will never become a large online gambling industry, but there are enough options for residents and visitors of the state. This state was one of the first to explore legal sports betting, but there hasn’t been much growth since that time.

New Hampshire Legal Sportsbooks

New Hampshire has legalized sports betting, but this is not a very large market. Both retail and online sports betting is available, but the state limits the options for each form of sports betting.

It was House Bill 480 that officially legalized sports betting in New Hampshire, and this was a pretty smooth process to get the bill passed. Lawmakers gave several amendments as the bill moved throughout the legislature, but sports betting continued to have plenty of support.

The New Hampshire Lottery was put in charge of sports betting, and it quickly formed a partnership with DraftKings. That partnership has designated DraftKings as the only online and retail sports betting option in the state.

DraftKings officially launched in December 2019 as an online sportsbook, and retail options came around in early 2020.

New Hampshire Online Sports Betting

Despite having just one online sports betting option, this is still the most popular way for residents of New Hampshire to wager on sports. DraftKings is one of the market leaders in the United States, and it provides bettors with a terrific experience in New Hampshire.

There is also a mobile app available through DraftKings, and the bettor can download it on both Android and iOS devices. Another bonus is that bettors can also access the DFS site through the sportsbook mobile app.

The New Hampshire Lottery had an application and bidding process to choose an online sports betting operator, and DraftKings was the clear winner. DraftKings agreed to pay a 51% tax on all gross gaming revenue at the online sportsbook to obtain the license.

New Hampshire Retail Sportsbooks

DraftKings won the license to offer online sportsbooks in the state, but it also earned the right to launch retail sports betting. The lack of competition is a bonus for DraftKings. Bettors in New Hampshire will also still get fair and reasonable lines from the operator.

The legal age to enter a retail sportsbook in New Hampshire is just 18 years of age, and this is open to visitors of the state as well. There are no plans to allow new retail locations to open or for another operator to launch retail sports betting.

There are just three retail sportsbooks in New Hampshire, and DraftKings operates all three. These three locations are:

  • The Brook
  • DraftKings Sportsbook at Filotimo-Dover
  • DraftKings Sportsbook at Filotimo-Manchester

Since New Hampshire is not home to traditional casinos, these sportsbooks have minimal operating hours. As a result, the sportsbooks typically close after all of the live sporting events for the day have concluded.

New Hampshire Legal Online Fantasy Sports Sites

Sites that offer daily fantasy sports are allowed in New Hampshire, as lawmakers signed a bill back in 2017. However, it was Bill H 580 that officially legalized DFS sites and allowed the state to regulate this industry.

When lawmakers signed this bill into law, New Hampshire became the 13th state to legalize this industry officially. The state put the New Hampshire Lottery Commission in charge of regulating this industry, which means that it must approve all sites before they are allowed to launch.

One positive for sites wishing to launch DFS sites is there’s no fee or tax associated with launching a site. This has attracted a wide range of DFS operators because most states require a fee.

The legal age to sign up at a DFS site is 18 years of age, and these sites can also offer mobile apps.

Salary Cap DFS Sites In New Hampshire

DraftKings and FanDuel are the two leaders for DFS sites in New Hampshire, and this is the case throughout the U.S. as well. Both of these operators have an available mobile app and an online site.

DraftKings and FanDuel focus on salary cap games, and it has been that way since they broke into this space almost ten years ago. Salary cap games require players to select a roster of players based on a sure salary cap, and the bettor enters the roster into a contest.

The prizes for each contest are paid out based on the entry fee and how many players enter. DraftKings and FanDuel have started to offer different games, but they will always focus on these options.

Fantasy Player Prop Games In New Hampshire

Sites such as Monkey Knife Fight, Owner’s Box, FantasyDraft, and Yahoo Fantasy are all available in New Hampshire. These sites will feature a wide range of DFS options. But player prop games are the most popular found on each site.

It’s simply too hard for smaller DFS operators to compete with DraftKings and FanDuel regarding salary cap games, and their solution is to offer player prop games. This game is similar to prop betting at a sportsbook, but there is no betting against the bookmaker at a DFS site.

Monkey Knife Fight is the fastest growing DFS operator in the United States, and it’s because of player prop games. For a small entry fee, players can make predictions about player stats in an attempt to win big at the DFS site.

Other sites similar to Monkey Knife Fight will focus on these games, but this is the top operator in this space.

Best Ball Games In New Hampshire

New Hampshire has some pretty wide-open DFS laws. For example, Underdog Fantasy is a site that specializes in Best Ball, although other DFS operators have now started to offer this game as well.

One significant advantage of playing a game such as best ball is that the site will help you choose the best lineup for you to use. You will still be required to draft a roster, but the site will use the players that score the most points.

Underdog Fantasy is available in nearly every state in the U.S. It has started to make a name for itself based on the great best ball options found on the site. There is also a mobile app available from Underdog Fantasy.

New Hampshire Legal Online Poker Sites

Online poker is another gambling option that is not available in New Hampshire. Poker rooms are not legal in New Hampshire, but the bettor can play poker at “casinos.”

Poker is allowed under the umbrella of charitable gambling, and that is how the state can offer these games. In addition, groups and nonprofit organizations can provide poker to make money to raise funds.

Because New Hampshire does not allow poker in the traditional sense, and the state has not discussed the topic. This type of gambling could eventually lead to an online casino bill, but the state has not introduced legislation.

There are only a handful of online poker sites authorized to operate in the U.S., which is another reason many states have not explored this form of online gambling.

New Hampshire Legal Online Casino Sites

New Hampshire has some interesting laws regarding casinos, which complicates matters when trying to launch online casino gambling. There are properties in New Hampshire that call themselves casinos, but you will not find any large establishments like you would in other states.

There are 17 charitable casinos up and running in New Hampshire, and these are more like sports bars. The state offers a wide range of traditional casino games, but there are strict limits on betting options.

New Hampshire is not home to any federally recognized Native American tribes, and therefore there are no tribal casinos. In addition, because the casino industry is still so small in New Hampshire, online casino gambling has not been an absolute priority.

If New Hampshire lawmakers were going to legalize this form of online gambling, it would require a similar process as when the state offered sports betting. It wouldn’t be hard for this state to make this a legal betting option. But don’t expect it to happen anytime soon.

How Do I Know That Online Gambling Sites In New Hampshire Are Fair?

New Hampshire sports betting works much differently than in other states because there is just one option available. That lack of competition might feel like it would cause some issues, but it doesn’t because DraftKings is the online sportsbook.

DraftKings is one of the top online sportsbooks in the U.S., and it is known for being fair. So, of course, giving the sportsbook a try is the best way to determine how fair the site is. But this operator has a long track record of being a great option.

Who Regulates Legal Online Sportsbooks In New Hampshire?

The New Hampshire Lottery oversees and regulates the online sports betting industry in the state. The NH Lottery struck a deal with DraftKings Sportsbook to allow that operator to launch in the state.

In other states, the regulatory body over sports betting has plenty of work. The lottery doesn’t have to worry about new applications since there are no more online-only licenses available.

Why Should I Trust Legal Online Sportsbooks?

The biggest reason to trust a sportsbook in New Hampshire is that the site is legal. Since DraftKings is the only online option available outside the state, there is very little reason not to trust the site.

DraftKings has become a massive online sports betting operator throughout the U.S. It will prove to be trustworthy in New Hampshire as well. If you have an issue, you can file a complaint with the New Hampshire Lottery.

How Do I Get Paid If I Win?

Each legal online gambling site in New Hampshire will have a long list of banking options. When you win money on a site, you will choose the withdrawal option that works for you. There will be a minimum withdrawal amount on each site, but you can request as much money.
