Darryn Peterson Best Bets – Props Tuesday & Expert Picks

Peterson became the first Kansas freshman to score 20+ points in back-to-back games since Ochai Agbaji in 2019, and the first Jayhawk since Agbaji (2021) to open a season with two 20+ point performances. But here’s the critical factor: Kansas just lost to North Carolina 87-74 on Friday (Peterson had 22 pts), and now faces a massive advantage against TACC (0-3 non-conference)—with Kansas -25.5 favorites, Peterson should have an elite night.

Expert Pick: Best Darryn Peterson Prop Today

Bill Self (Kansas coach) said after the UNC loss: “Darryn got off 14 shots, but he probably needed to get off 20 or 22 for us really to have a shot in here tonight”. Translation: Peterson is the only reliable scorer, and Kansas needs him to dominate.

My only real concern is the blowout here. That being said, we are early enough in the season where Kansas might want to get him a few more reps, as it’s only the third collegiate game of Peterson’s career.

There aren’t currently any lines or projections posted for Peterson, but we’ll keep you posted when they pop up.

Who Is Darryn Peterson?

Here’s the thing about Darryn Peterson: this kid is the real deal. We’re talking about the #1 overall recruit coming out of high school, and he’s not just a name on a board—he’s LIVING UP to the hype at Kansas.

Peterson started his high school career at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) where he averaged 26.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists as a freshman.

By his senior year at Prolific Prep in Napa, California, he was putting up 30.4 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 7.4 APG on 52% shooting from the field and 86% from the line. He won the Naismith Boys High School Player of the Year award, earned McDonald’s All-American honors, and became the consensus #1 recruit in the class.

But here’s the kicker—and this is important: Darryn Peterson made history. In November 2023, he became the first high school basketball player ever to sign an NIL deal with Adidas. Think about that. The first. That tells you everything about the level of prospect we’re discussing.

He also won gold with USA Basketball at the 2023 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Mexico, averaging 16.8 points and making all-tournament honors. International experience, elite scoring, elite efficiency.

His father, Darryl Peterson II, played basketball at the University of Akron from 2001 to 2006. His older brother, Darryl Peterson III, was a linebacker at Wisconsin. Basketball is in his DNA, but so is athleticism and versatility.

At 6’5″ to 6’6″, depending on the measurement, he’s a guard who can play multiple positions. He’s a pure scorer, a legitimate playmaker (7.4 assists as a senior), and a lockdown defender when he wants to be.

Now he’s a Kansas Jayhawk freshman in the 2025-26 season, and after just two games, he’s averaging 21.5 PPG on 60% shooting from the field and 50% from three. That’s not a freshman stat line. That’s a junior or senior stat line.

The NBA is already watching. He’s being discussed as a strong one-and-done candidate for the 2026 NBA Draft. NBA scouts compare him to some of the most elite guard prospects we’ve seen in the last decade.

So who is Darryn Peterson? He’s a franchise-changing prospect who’s only been playing college basketball for two games. He’s a kid from Ohio who moved to California for his senior year to maximize his recruiting profile. He’s a record-breaking recruit, an NBA mentor, and the centerpiece of Kansas basketball.

He’s the #1 recruit living up to the billing. And he’s just getting started.
