Sixers vs Wizards Prediction Today – Tuesday, October 28

The Philadelphia 76ers roll into Capital One Arena tonight riding the most absurd backcourt performance we’ve seen in over 50 years, and I’m not being hyperbolic here.

Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe have combined for 186 points through three games—the most by any starting backcourt in a team’s first three games since they started tracking this stuff in 1970-71.

Let me break that down: Maxey’s averaging 37 points per game while the rookie Edgecombe is dropping 25 PPG. That’s 62 points per game from your backcourt. Video game numbers.

The Sixers are 3-0 despite missing Paul George, and they get Joel Embiid back tonight after he rested Monday’s game.

Meanwhile, Washington’s sitting at 1-2 after getting torched by Charlotte on Sunday—allowing 88 second-half points and getting booed off their own floor in their home opener.

This one feels pretty straightforward on paper, but let’s dig into what the numbers actually tell us.

Sixers Props and Prediction Today

They’re missing their second-best player in Paul George, they’re managing Embiid on a strict 20-minute restriction, and they’ve got multiple rotation players out. But Maxey and Edgecombe have been absolutely unconscious.

If you’re thinking about Tyrese Maxey props today, you’ll be chasing big numbers the rest of the season. Maxey dropped 43 points with 8 assists on Monday against Orlando, including 8 straight points in the fourth quarter.

The dude is playing like a superstar, and when you pair that with a rookie who’s averaging 25 PPG and already has a 34-point debut under his belt? That’s a nightmare matchup for a young, defensively challenged Washington squad.

The Sixers have won three straight, they’re 2-1 against the spread, and they’re averaging 124.3 PPG (5th in the NBA). Even with Embiid on a minutes restriction, they have Kelly Oubre Jr. (25 points vs Orlando) and Andre Drummond (just hit 11,000 career rebounds) providing solid depth.

Lakers vs Kings Prediction

Wizards Props and Prediction Today

I don’t want to pile on Washington because they’ve actually shown some encouraging flashes.

Kyshawn George dropped 34 points against Dallas, and rookies Tre Johnson and Alex Sarr have shown real potential. CJ McCollum’s providing veteran leadership, and Khris Middleton adds savvy to the frontcourt.

However, this is a rebuilding team with major defensive issues. They led Charlotte by 11 at halftime Sunday and then got destroyed in the second half. They allowed 44 points in the fourth quarter alone. That’s not a recipe for success against the hottest backcourt in basketball.

The one wild card? Tre Johnson is questionable with low back soreness. If he sits, Washington loses a guy who’s scored 15+ points in all three games this season. That’s a significant blow to their offensive firepower.

At +140 on the moneyline, there’s some contrarian value here if you believe in chaos and variance. But I’m not touching it. The Wizards are 1-2 straight up, -9.7 point differential (25th in the NBA), and their home opener resulted in boos from their own fans.

76ers vs Wizards Injury Report Today

76ers:

  • OUT: Paul George (left knee surgery)
  • OUT: Jared McCain (right thumb surgery)
  • OUT: Trendon Watford (left hamstring tightness)
  • OUT: Dominick Barlow (right elbow laceration)
  • ACTIVE: Joel Embiid (returning from rest, 20-minute restriction)

Wizards:

  • OUT: Bilal Coulibaly (right thumb surgery)
  • QUESTIONABLE: Tre Johnson (low back soreness)

The Johnson injury is critical here. He’s been Washington’s most consistent rookie scorer, and if he can’t go, the Wizards lose another offensive weapon against a Sixers team that’s rolling.

Sixers vs Wizards Props and Picks Today

There are plenty of 76ers vs Wizards props to choose from on Underdog for Monday. Let’s dive into the Sixers vs Wizards predictions and some VJ Edgecombe props!

Tryese Maxey props, VJ Edgecombe props - Sixers vs Wizards prediction - Tuesday, Oct. 28

Tyrese Maxey Props Today

  • Tyrese Maxey Higher/Lower Than 39.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

Maxey has been absolutely incredible this season, and it looks like he’ taking another leap. That’s scary for the NBA. Although Joel Embiid is on a minutes restriction, Maxey’s assist and usage rates are historically different without Embiid on the floor. Something to think about before just hammering his “higher” numbers.

VJ Edgecombe Props Today

  • Higher/Lower Than 19.5 Points

We have to talk about some VJ Edgecombe props. Edgecombe has been historically good through three games. Many can’t believe how much improvement he’s shown since his senior season at Baylor ended.

The growth is real, and so is the athleticism. With Embiid active, I’ll take “lower than” 19.5 points, but I still believe he will have a solid game and fill up the stat sheet. It’s just so much more usage in the lineup with Embiid, Maxey – not to mention Kelly Oubre and Quentin Grimes.

Sixers vs Wizards Prediction: Last Game and Series History

All-Time Series: 76ers Lead 195-128

Philadelphia has absolutely dominated this matchup historically. We’re talking about a 67-win advantage across 323 career meetings. The Sixers have been the superior franchise for decades, and it shows.

Recent History: Philly’s Taken Control

In the last 20 games, the 76ers are 14-6 against Washington. That’s a 70% win rate. The Wizards can steal one here and there, but this has been Philadelphia’s series for years now.

Last Season (2024-25): Sixers Won Series 2-1

Here’s how it played out:

Game 1 – January 8, 2025
@ Philadelphia
76ers 109, Wizards 103
Early season beatdown in Philly.

Game 2 – March 26, 2025
@ Philadelphia
Wizards 119, 76ers 114
Washington steals one in Philly late in the season. Rare bright spot.

Game 3 – April 9, 2025
@ Washington
76ers 122, Wizards 103
Philly closes out the season series with an absolute beatdown. 19-point blowout on Washington’s home floor.

2023-24 Season: Complete Domination (4-0 Sweep)

This was brutal for Wizards fans:

  • Nov 6, 2023: 76ers 146-128 (46-point explosion)
  • Dec 6, 2023: 76ers 131-126 (close but still L)
  • Dec 11, 2023: 76ers 146-101 (45-point massacre)
  • Feb 10, 2024: 76ers 119-113 (season sweep complete)

2022-23 Season: Wizards Showed Some Life (Split 2-2)

  • Oct 31, 2022: 76ers 118-111
  • Nov 2, 2022: Wizards 121-111 (rare back-to-back wins)
  • Dec 27, 2022: Wizards 116-111
  • Mar 12, 2023: 76ers 112-93

Philadelphia has won 14 of the last 20 meetings and went 2-1 last season despite it being one of their worst years in franchise history (24-58 record). The Wizards managed just one win against a terrible Sixers team.

Now? The Sixers are 3-0, rolling with the hottest backcourt in basketball, and facing a rebuilding Washington squad that just got torched for 88 second-half points by Charlotte.
