Boston Celtics Prediction and Preview
The Boston Celtics entered the new season under significant transition after President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens made bold roster moves to manage the franchise’s luxury tax structure.
Stevens sent away a pair of core contributors, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porziņgis, in deals designed to reshape the payroll and retool the roster around the team’s remaining stars.
The first of those moves brought in Anfernee Simons, a proven scorer who has averaged at least 17 points per game in each of the last four seasons, giving Boston a dynamic guard presence in the backcourt.
Stevens didn’t stop there, adding Chris Boucher, Luka Garza, and Josh Minott to provide head coach Joe Mazzulla with new layers of depth and flexibility.
With Holiday, Porzingis, and Jayson Tatum out, the Celtics have a new identity forming behind Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard, while the city continues to await Tatum’s full return to action.
For Brown, the expectation rises even higher after averaging 22.2 points per game last year, marking his sixth consecutive season averaging 20+ per night.
That run cements his status as one of the most reliable scoring wings in the league, and he could challenge his personal best of 26.6 points set during his Second Team All-NBA 2022-23 campaign.
Center Neemias Queta will also assume a larger workload after his breakout performance, leading Portugal to its best-ever finish in FIBA EuroBasket 2025, signaling his readiness for a more prominent NBA role.
Meanwhile, Payton Pritchard steps into his sixth season as an established sharpshooter and aggressive driver capable of penetrating the lane with consistency.
His production jumped notably last season, as he averaged 14.3 points per game and led all Boston non-centers with a 47.2% field-goal percentage while playing a team-high 80 games.
Once unsure if his opportunity would come in Boston, Pritchard now finds himself in the perfect position to thrive and showcase the full scope of his offensive skill set.
New York Knicks Prediction and Preview
The New York Knicks are also navigating change. The front office moved on from Tom Thibodeau, the coach who guided them to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, ushering in a new era under Mike Brown.
While the Knicks retained most of their key pieces, Brown’s challenge is to sustain their playoff success and push closer to title contention.
To strengthen their depth, the team signed Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele, while also extending training camp invitations to Malcom Brogdon (who just retired) and Landry Shamet.
Clarkson’s arrival adds a scoring jolt off the bench, as he has accumulated 4,589 points off the bench since 2020, the most in the NBA during that span.
Yabusele, coming off a productive stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, averaged 11 points and 5.6 rebounds on 50.1% shooting last season and provides versatile frontcourt insurance.
But the spotlight in New York shines brightest on Mikal Bridges, the franchise’s major swingman acquisition and unquestioned X-factor.
The Knicks paid a steep price: five first-round picks to pry him away from the Brooklyn Nets, betting on his two-way ability to anchor their long-term success.
His first full season in New York came with mixed results, but he silenced critics in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, particularly in the second-round clash with Boston.
Who To Bet On – Knicks vs Celtics
I like some player props on Pritchard and Bridges. Pritchard’s strengths lie in his ability to stretch the floor and inject pace into the offense.
The former Oregon star has mechanics that are compact, allowing him to convert from long range under pressure, and his instincts as a driver make him far more than a spot-up shooter. He attacks seams with precision and rarely hesitates when an opening presents itself.
His composure under duress, coupled with his experience running Boston’s second unit, translates well into a larger starting role.
He’s also shown he can handle the physical and mental demands of a long NBA schedule, playing in 80 games last season without fading. The combination of efficient shooting, fearless penetration, and decision-making gives the Celtics a reliable spark alongside Brown and White.
Bridges’ defining quality is versatility: his length, composure, and balance allow him to impact the game on both ends without forcing plays. His defensive timing is exceptional, and his ability to anticipate passes and disrupt possessions often flips momentum in New York’s favor.
Offensively, he’s evolved into a multidimensional scorer who can attack mismatches, hit off-the-dribble jumpers, and stay efficient even when usage increases. Bridges’ calm temperament and unselfish approach also elevate his teammates, giving Mike Brown a dependable leader on the court.
Celtics vs Knicks Props and Picks Today
There are plenty of Celtics vs Knicks props to choose from on Underdog for Friday night’s slate of games. Let’s dive into the Celtics vs Knicks predictions!
Boston is coming off a 117-116 home loss against the 76ers on Wednesday, and they will rely heavily on Brown’s leadership and Pritchard’s expanded offensive load.
The Knicks, with their continuity and defensive structure, beat the Cavaliers 119-111 at home on Wednesday and will look to grind out possessions and force Boston’s new-look rotation into half-court tests on Friday.
Look for Pritchard to ignite early with a mix of perimeter shooting and drives. He had 16 points against the 76ers despite going just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. He’ll shoot the ball better from long range against the Knicks.
Bridges counters as one of New York’s most balanced weapons on both ends. He had 16 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks against the Cavaliers, and he won’t regress on Friday.
In a contest that reflects both teams’ identity shifts, the Knicks’ defensive cohesion and late-game execution should narrowly prevail.
