Welcome to the Props.com guide to the best DFS sites. Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) have been around for almost 20 years, and are still very popular even in the age of legal sports betting.
This page will cover everything you need to know about DFS, including the best DFS sites, how to sign up for an account, which games types and sports are available, which states have legalized DFS games, and much more.
Let’s get started.
At a glance: The best DFS sign up offers in All States today
Top DFS sites and promo codes
There are over a dozen top DFS sites out there, each offering something a little different. Some have a wide variety of games, while others have just a few. Some are app-only, while others have both an app and website option. Some are great for beginners, while others focus on more experienced players. The list goes on.
Here are the top 11 DFS sites we recommend for players of all skill levels, from beginner to expert.
Chalkboard Fantasy
Chalkboard Fantasy is a great option for those who like pick’em games on the big four pro sports leagues. There is also a free-to-play option so you don’t even have to make a deposit to get in on the fun.
Chalkboard offers many different pick’em options, including team and player props, in-game, parlay, moneyline, and point spread. All you need to do is predict whether the result will be above or below the number listed.
Don’t like the number listed? Chalkboard makes it easy to adjust the spread and create more alt lines with higher or lower potential payout. Additionally, new players can get $20 free just for signing up on the site. No deposit required to get this solid promotional offer.
Pros
- Available in more than 30 states
- Many different payout multiplier options
- Huge variety of wager types, including teasers, in-game bets, and parlays
- Great new customer offer
- All the biggest pro sports leagues have many prediction options
- Free-to-play and premium play options both available
Cons
- Not available in as many states as other DFS sites
- Only four sports available
- Complicated process to withdraw winnings
- Separate file download required to play from a PC
More on Chalkboard Fantasy
Speaking of deposits, Chalkboard has three deposit options, including PayPal, major credit/debit cards, and bank transfers. Currently, the only withdrawal option is a bank transfer, which usually takes a day or two to complete.
The best part of the Chalkboard app is the aforementioned alt line adjustment tool that gives users the ability to easily change the listed number to one that more closely aligns with their risk tolerance. It’s a great feature that is available for most pick’em options.
There is a lot to like about Chalkboard, but its biggest drawback is the lack of available sports. Chalkboard only has four sports to choose from, which is far fewer than the competition.

Betr Picks
Betr Picks co-founder Jake Paul knows how to entertain audiences, but does he know how to run a successful DFS site? How has his foray into DFS and pick’em games turned out so far? Pretty well, actually.
Betr Picks is a great DFS site that does a lot of things well, but its microwagering options separate it from the competition. This form of live betting is fast-paced and fun; you can literally pick whether the next pitch at an MLB game will be a strike or ball or whether the next play in an NFL game will be a pass or run. The technology is impressive and it’s a fun way to make picks in real time.
In addition to microwagering Betr Picks has several different pick’em games, including edge combos, boosted picks, edge picks, and anchor picks. You can make up to 8 selections in one parlay sheet and if you get them all right you can win up to 1,000 times your original wager. Most DFS sites don’t pay out that much, so this is a good feature for those who like to play long shot contests.
Pros
- Founded by popular boxer and media celebrity Jake Paul
- Wide variety of available sports
- Betr Picks is a fun pick’em game that can pay out up to 1,000x your original wager
- Three types of contests: pick’em, peer-to-peer fantasy contests, and in-game micro wagering
- Online sportsbook available in OH and VA
- Above-average new customer offer
Cons
- Pick’em games prohibited in many states
- App only; no website option available
- Only one withdrawal option
- Must be 21+ to play (many other DFS sites are 18+)
More on Betr Picks
The Betr Picks new customer offer gives players a free $10 credit to use on the site as well as a 50% deposit match up to $200. This is a better offer than most of the competition.
Other wager types aside from live picks include moneylines, totals, and point spreads. At this time alt lines are not available, but we hope to see them added soon. Banking options include debit cards, PayPal, and bank transfer. The withdrawal method must be the same as the deposit method.
The app is easy to use and features innovative social aspects that make it enjoyable to play with friends. The Betr Picks people know how to create an engaging app. The only drawback is that there is no browser version for those who like to play DFS games on their laptop.
Betr Picks is best for younger DFS fans who like the flash of Jake Paul and his colleagues. The app is as brash as Mr. Paul’s personality, but behind the sizzle is a solidly built platform that delivers a wide variety of entertaining game options.

PrizePicks
PrizePicks doesn’t have a lot of different types of games, but the games it does offer are excellent. It operates in 43 states and has a solid new customer offer along with several fun ongoing promotions.
PrizePicks has two types of pick’em games available that are familiar to most DFS players. Power Play picks mean that all predictions have to win in order to get paid. This game type pays out higher than the Flex Play option, but it’s also harder to achieve. Flex Play lets you collect winnings even if you get up to two picks wrong. The payout is less but it’s more flexible, hence the name.
New users can get $50 instantly after playing just $5 or more on PrizePicks. This is a good offer, but it is a bit less generous than other DFS sites.
Pros
- Two types of pick’em formats for additional flexibility
- Many creative game types to customize potential payouts
- Great new customer offer
- Taco Tuesday is a fun ongoing promotion that discounts selected player projections
- Mobile app and desktop version both available
- More withdrawal options than other DFS sites
Cons
- Pick’em games not available in every state that allows PrizePicks
- Betting limits can be set very low if you have any level of success
- Traditional DFS games not offered
More on PrizePicks
PrizePicks offers about 20 different sports, which gives it an unmatched depth of pick’em options. All the biggest pro sports are listed on the site alongside some interesting sports like frisbee golf, cricket, and lacrosse. If you’re looking for something different to pick from, PrizePicks is a good option for you.
PrizePicks also has more ongoing promotions than the competition. Flex Fridays and Taco Tuesdays are legendary in the DFS world, and both promotions offer discounted predictions and protected play that doesn’t impact your payout. If fun promotions are important to you, PrizePicks is your best bet.
The one drawback of PrizePicks is that they are very quick to limit the amount you can wager each day if you start having some success on the site. If you’re a big DFS player and are comfortable putting hundreds or thousands down on pick’em games each day or week, you might not be able to at PrizePicks. Other than that it’s a great site that is worth checking out.

OwnersBox
OwnersBox has three types of contests: player picks, salary cap, spin & draft, and lightning lineups. These are popular contests familiar to DFS players. We particularly like the fact that OwnersBox has a salary cap game, because most pick-em-focused DFS sites don’t offer that option.
OwnersBox only has five sports available to pick from, which is a bummer for those who like playing all kinds of different pick’em games. It’s available in 38 states plus DC, which is more than most of the competition. As you can tell, OwnersBox has several advantages and a few disadvantages.
The welcome bonus is an advantage. It’s a straightforward deposit match up to $100, which is a great way to try out the site with some extra credits to play with.
Pros
- Three types of DFS contests available
- Great deposit match promotion
- App is intuitive and easy to use
- All the top pro sports leagues are featured
- Available in 38 states + DC and Canada
Cons
- Limited number of sports compared to the competition
- Only one online withdrawal option
- Not much separates it from the competition
More on OwnersBox
OwnersBox is one of the few DFS sites that has a rewards program, which we really like. It’s always nice to be rewarded for your play, and the OwnersBucks that players earn can be used as site credit or redeemed for merchandise in the company store.
Other than the rewards program, OwnersBox doesn’t have any ongoing promotions, which is a bummer. OwnersBox is best for those who like playing traditional pick’em games and salary cap games in a straightforward format without all the extra bells and whistles.
Check out our full OwnersBox Fantasy review for more on this solid DFS option.
Sleeper Fantasy
Sleeper Fantasy has several sports to choose from and offers three exciting game types. Sleeper is one of our favorite DFS sites because of the huge number of player prop options it offers. It also has a fun app that has a great social component so you can easily play with your friends.
Sleeper has a terrific player prop pick’em option, but it also offers a daily draft game that is like a salary cap DFS game without the salary cap. Users create a roster of players and compete against other users. If your players do the best that day, you win. No pick’em over/unders or salary caps. Just pick some players and hope they have a career day.
The Sleeper new customer offer is a solid 100% deposit match up to $100. Nothing extravagant, just good value that lets you play with house money after signing up for an account.
Pros
- Established company that has been around for over 8 years
- Excellent new customer offer
- Tons of player prop picks available with huge potential payouts
- More games and leagues than the competition
- Available in 30 states
- Highly rated on Apple App Store and Google Play Store
Cons
- Only two deposit/withdrawal options
- Not in as many states as other DFS sites
- Other sites have more available sports
More on Sleeper Fantasy
A dozen sports are available on Sleeper, which is a good number. The really low-profile sports aren’t there, but popular options like tennis and UFC are listed. It’s a good mix of pick’em options. Similarly, Sleeper has four banking options, including Venmo and PayPal. Withdrawing funds is quicker and easier on Sleeper than many other DFS sites, and deposits are also a snap.
The Sleeper app is highly rated and integrates social media into its user interface. Users can connect and text each other through the app, adding a fun social element to the pick’em experience. The one area we would like to see added in the future is a couple more game types, but that is a small gripe. Overall, we really like Sleeper Fantasy, and we think you’ll like it too.
Check out our full Sleeper Promo Code review for more on this great DFS option
ParlayPlay Promo Code
ParlayPlay does things a little differently. It offers pick’em games like the other DFS sites, but its Hit It game is unique. Rather than picking whether a player will go over or under a certain metric, with Hit It, you are choosing from several different scoring ranges. This gives you some flexibility and is a fun game type that is a little different than the others.
We really like Hit it, but we also appreciate the other game types on ParlayPlay and the many ongoing promotions. There’s a lot to like with ParlayPlay, including a deposit match of up to $100 for new players. Add to that a loyalty program and you have a great DFS site.
Pros
- Unique combination of prop and parlay options with variable payouts
- More sports than other DFS sites
- Great new customer offer
- A loyalty program!
- App is intuitive and fun to use
Cons
- Only available in 27 states
- Only one withdrawal method
- Traditional DFS games not offered
More on ParlayPlay
More than a dozen sports are listed on ParlayPlay, so you’ll always have some pick’em games to choose from. Another unique feature of ParlayPlay is the inclusion of crypto as a deposit option. It’s not available in every state, but no other DFS site lets you fund your account using your crypto wallet.
If you’re into crypto, ParlayPlay might be the best DFS option for you. It’s also the best option for those who are into a variety of different pick’em games and also like creative ongoing promotions. The one drawback we have found is that it is not available in as many states as other DFS sites, and the cash-out process takes 3-5 days, which is longer than the competition. Other than that, it’s a great DFS site that is worth checking out.
Check out our full Parlay Play Promo Code review for more on this great DFS option
BettDraft Promo Code
BettDraft is not as widely known as its competition, but it offers users an appealing product that focuses on low entry fees and high potential payouts. It’s a solid option for beginners as well. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the larger DFS brands, but it’s a good option to check out.
New users can get a deposit match up to $100 at BettDraft, which is a nice way to check out the site after signing up for an account. The only ongoing promotion offered by BettDraft is a refer-a-friend option, which is a little disappointing.
BettDraft makes up for its shortcomings by offering a huge variety of sports to pick from. Its pick’em draft game type is the only one available, but you can make up to 10 selections, which would result in a massive payout in the unlikely event it hits. However, you can also get paid if up to three of your picks are not correct. The payout is much less, but other DFS sites usually limit it to two, so this is an extra feature.
Pros
- Entry fees start at just $1
- Higher potential payouts than other sites
- Competitive new customer offer
- Huge variety of sports to choose from
- Website is easy to navigate and great for beginners
Cons
- Only one withdrawal option available
- Only one game type (prop-style picking)
- Not in as many states as other DFS sites
- Has only been around since 2023
More on BettDraft
BettDraft only has one banking option, used for both deposits and withdrawals. The operator only uses Skrill, so you have to use Skrill to fund your account. Not every bank has a partnership with Skrill, so you should check with your bank before signing up for a BettDraft account. If you can’t access Skrill, you can’t fund your BettDraft account.
If you can fund your account, you will have a lot of sports to choose from. BettDraft has 15 sports to choose from, including NASCAR and Formula 1, which some DFS sites do not offer. We really like the sports selection at BettDraft.
BettDraft has several drawbacks, most notably its disappointing number of banking options (one). However, if you’re a beginner and want an easy-to-use app with very low entry fees and high potential payouts, BettDraft is worth checking out.

Dabble Promo Code
Dabble has quickly risen to prominence since its launch in 2023. Dabble Fantasy Picks is the one game type offered by the site, but that’s ok because it is a great game type that pays out up to 100x the entry fee. Dabble is easy to use and has a social aspect that makes it fun to play with friends.
If you like playing DFS games with your friends, Dabble is worth your time and bankroll. Its social media integration is very good and is the biggest reason why the site has grown so much since its 2023 launch.
Dabble also has a great new customer offer. Most sites require a deposit to get the promotion, but Dabble gives all new users $25 in bet credits after they sign up. No deposit required! This is a great way to check out the site without having to make a financial commitment.
Pros
- Available in DFS hotbeds California, Texas, and Florida
- Decent sign-up offer
- Users can sign up at 18 years old rather than 21 at other DFS sites
- Payout structure goes up to 100x entry fee
- Social aspect fun for playing with friends
Cons
- Only one game type available
- Limited number of sports
- Withdrawals limited to direct bank transfers
More on Dabble
In addition to the great new customer offer, Dabble has several creative ongoing promotions, including rocket boosts, spin & win, lightning boost, and shielded picks. It also offers all the biggest sports and even some lower-profile ones like Cricket and WNBA. You’ll find plenty of picks to make on the Dabble app.
When you’re ready to fund your account, Dabble offers three deposit options, but only one options for withdrawals. They only pay out to a bank account, so you can use Apple Pay or a credit card to make a deposit but you don’t have that option for withdrawals.
The Dabble app is great, particularly because of its social media integration, as we mentioned. Chatting with your friends and tracking their picks is a snap on the Dabble app. It’s the best part of the user experience and the biggest reason why Dabble is one of our top DFS recommendations.

Boom Fantasy Promo Code
Boom Fantasy is one of the oldest pick’em sites out there. It has been around since 2015, and has refined its offerings to become a top-tier DFS site. Boom has more ongoing promotions than the competition and offers many creative games. Add to that a solid new customer offer and you have an innovative, fun DFS site that is worth checking out.
Boom fantasy has more ongoing promotions than any other DFS site we have reviewed. They put a lot of effort into the user experience, coming up with creative ways to keep their customers engaged. In fact, they have a featured promotion every day of the week.
Boom also offers all the sports you would expect from a top DFS site, including the top four US pro sports leagues, UFC, eSports, and more. You play six different pick’em game types on Boom, including over/unders, matchups, and more. The max number of picks is just 5 so your potential max payouts might be lower than other DFS sites, but you have more ways to implement your pick’em strategy to maximize your chances of success.
Pros
- Great new customer offer
- Tons of fun ongoing promotions
- Game types are more creative than other DFS sites
- Highly rated on Apple App Store and Google Play Store
- More deposit options than other sites
Cons
- Not available in as many states as other DFS sites
- Traditional DFS games not offered
- App only; no desktop version
More on Boom Fantasy
Boom has a good variety of banking options, including PayPal and online banking. Its withdrawal options are better than most other DFS sites because you can withdraw using PayPal or Venmo in addition to online banking. This makes it much easier to access your funds because it doesn’t take as long as a normal bank transfer.
Boom Fantasy is best for those who like creative promotional offers and want some fun with their DFS gaming experience. While the actual games aren’t much different than other sites and it doesn’t have a browser version, it has many advantages that we think you’ll enjoy.

Underdog Fantasy
Underdog Fantasy is one of our top choices for best DFS sites. We like it because it’s creative, fun, and available in almost every state that allows DFS games. It also has a solid new customer offer and a huge variety of sports to choose from. Underdog should be on your short list of DFS sites to check out.
Underdog has become one of the biggest operators in the country for a reason. It does everything very well. It has more available sports than the competition, it has both pick’em games and traditional DFS games, it has six types of ongoing promotions, and it has a robust number of banking options.
If you sign up for an account at Underdog and play just $5 or more, you can instantly get $50 in site credit plus a free gimme pick. That is a great new customer offer that is creative and offers real value to new players.
Pros
- Games not available anywhere else
- One of the biggest DFS operators in the industry
- Available in more states than the competition
- Great new customer offer
- Wide variety of sports
Cons
- All games not available in every state
- No salary cap games
More on Underdog Fantasy
Underdog uses Trustly for its online banking, and you can also deposit using PayPal, credit/debit cards, or Apple Pay. Withdrawals can be done using Trustly, a debit card, or PayPal.
The Underdog app is a snap to use and is available in more states than most other sites. The only real drawback to Underdog is that it doesn’t offer traditional salary cap games and it doesn’t have a rewards program. But those are minor quibbles compared to the many things it does right. Underdog is one of our top picks and we highly recommend you check it out if you’re looking for a great DFS site that has more to offer than the competition.

DraftKings DFS
There is no better choice for traditional DFS salary cap games than DraftKings DFS. It is the original DFS site and still the best. It has the widest variety of sports available and several different types of games to choose from. Other sites might have more pick’em games, but DraftKings is the oldest and biggest DFS operator and should be your choice for salary cap DFS games.
DraftKings also has a rewards program that gives you points for each contest you enter. This is a great added feature not available at most pick’em sites. Speaking of pick’em games, DraftKings doesn’t have any. It only has traditional DFS games. We don’t see this as a shortcoming because DraftKings started as a traditional DFS site and remains our top choice for those who want to play salary cap games against other players.
Pros
- Biggest name in DFS
- Huge variety of traditional DFS games to choose from
- Available in 40+ states
- Excellent rewards program
- Way more sports than the competition
Cons
- College football and basketball not offered
- Other sites have a wider variety of pick’em games available
More on DraftKings
DraftKings also has more banking options than the competition, probably because of its experience running the biggest sportsbook in the country. You can use Apple Pay, Venmo, and even a DraftKings gift card to fund your account in addition to credit/debit cards, wire transfers, and PayPal. It also has many more withdrawal options than the competition, including wire transfer, Trustly online banking, Apple Pay, and debit cards.
The one area where we would like to see DraftKings expend is its selection of available sports. It has all the biggest sports like UFC, Tennis, and the big four sports leagues, but that’s where things end. It would be nice to have some more options to choose from, but that is a minor nitpick.
New players can get a 20% deposit match up to $500 in DK dollars, just for signing up for an account. We highly recommend DraftKings DFS to anyone who wants to play salary cap DFS games and try to compete against other players instead of just picking over/unders against the house.

How to find the best DFS new customer bonus
It is easy to find the best DFS new customer bonus. As you can see in the table below, a majority of the best DFS sites have a deposit match promotion that tops out at $100. This is a solid offer, but since a lot of them are the same, no one site stands out above the rest.
If you don’t want to deposit $100 there are a few options. Chalkboard offers $20 in site credit just for signing up. Betr offers $10, no deposit required. And Dabble offers a whopping $25 just for trying out their site.
We still think the $100 deposit match is the way to go because it gives you the highest amount of bet credits, but if you don’t want to risk $100 or more on DFS games you can get a total of $55 in credits without having to deposit anything at all by signing up for Chalkboard, Betr, and Dabble using the links on our page. What a deal!
The table below has all the new customer offers available, along with the promo codes and links needed to sign up for an account at any of our 11 favorite DFS sites.

How to sign up and claim your bonus
Every DFS site makes it extremely to sign up for an account and claim your bonus. In just a few minutes you can be putting together a team for the evening’s games. Here is a step-by-step guide to signing up for any of your favorite DFS sites.
- Pick a DFS site – Any of the sites listed above are great, but if you’re new to DFS and pick’em games we recommend Underdog, PrizePicks, and Sleeper Fantasy
- Download the app – The special links featured throughout this review page will take you directly to the signup page and will automatically give you the best new customer offer. You can also download the app first and then add the promo code during the signup process if you prefer. Either way, you’ll need to download the app early on in the signup process.
- Sign up for an account – The first part of signing up for an account is to enter a username, password, and valid email address. At this point you are often asked to enter a promo code. Be sure to do so to ensure you get the best offer available.
- Enter additional information – Step two of the signup process requires you to enter some personal information, including your address and phone number. Some sites also require the last four digits of your social security number. All this information is necessary to confirm your identity and is kept secure using industry-leading technology.
- Confirm Terms and Conditions and finalize the process – The signup process wraps up by you confirming that you accept the terms of the account. Each site has a different process to confirm your identity, and that step is usually done here. After all that, you’re ready to make a deposit and start playing.
- Make a deposit – If you’re familiar with sportsbooks, you might be surprised by the lack of deposit options available at DFS sites. They are working on adding more banking options, but for now all the biggest sites allow bank transfers, so that is your best bet. Remember that your financial information is kept safe and secure using all the latest security technology.
- Start playing – At this point, your account has been created and funded. You’re ready to start picking props or setting a lineup for the day’s games. Remember to use the funds from your new customer offer as soon as possible because the credits often expire after just seven days.

How to choose the best DFS site
Choosing the best DFS site begins with your location. Not every DFS site is available in every state. Five states don’t allow any of them, so we will assume you are in one of the 45 states that allow some sort of DFS gaming. Let’s go over the steps needed to find the best DFS site.
- If you’re in a state where pick’em games are allowed, most or all of the DFS sites listed above are available. Let’s assume that people would choose either FanDuel or DraftKings if they want to play traditional salary cap DFS games. That leaves us with 10 pick ’em-focused sites.
- The next step in how to choose the best DFS site. The top sites each have a new customer offer that maxes out at $100. That’s still a lot of value, but one doesn’t stand above the rest. We covered how to find the best new customer bonus in a section above, but the bottom line is that we recommend signing up for multiple sites to claim different new customer offers and get the most value out of your DFS playing.
- Even with 10 different new customer offers, most people don’t want to sign up for 10 different DFS sites. Let’s assume your limit is three. What should we consider next? How about available sports.
- The last major factor to consider is user experience. How easy is the app to use? Does the app have high ratings on the App Store and Google Play Store? Is there also a website in case you want to play on your laptop? The overall user experience varies greatly, but the bigger sites tend to have more intuitive apps that are fun and easy to use.
More on choosing the best DFS site
As we discussed above, some of the best DFS sites have the big four pro sports leagues and not much else, while others offer a huge variety of sports to try out. If you are a gamer and want to play eSports DFS games, there are six to choose from. If you like tennis, you have nine options. And so on.
After considering all these factors, Props.com recommends three DFS sites to anyone residing in a state where pick’em games are legal.
We like Underdog, PrizePicks, and Sleeper because they have a variety of sports, a solid new customer promotion, and fun pick’em games to choose from. Their apps are great and a social aspect is also incorporated so you can play with your friends.
We think all the DFS sites reviewed on this page are worth your time and bankroll, but if we had to just pick three, it would be Underdog, PrizePicks, and Sleeper.
Ongoing promotions and rewards programs
Each DFS site is different, but many of them offer ongoing promotions and rewards programs to keep existing customers coming back. A few even offer rewards programs. In fact, FanDuel DFS has a rewards program while FanDuel Sportsbook does not. That is an unusual twist; usually it’s the other way around.
As you can see in the table below, a wide variety of ongoing promotions are available. Some have several while others only have one. Most ongoing promotions involve some sort of payout boost or reduced pick’em line, but some sites get pretty creative. We love ongoing promotions because they add additional value and are fun to use. Here are a few of the top ongoing promotions and rewards programs offered by the biggest DFS sites.

Best DFS sports and leagues
Every DFS site has a wide variety of games focused on the big four professional sports leagues (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB). That is where the similarities end. Some DFS sites only have a handful of sports, while others offer a huge number of sports, including low-profile options such as frisbee golf, jai alai, and lacrosse. Is frisbee golf even on TV? That’s a question for another day.
If you only want to do a pick’em game every Sunday while watching the NFL on your couch, you have you pick of any DFS site. If you want to dig a little deeper and uncover some hidden DFS opportunities, the table below has more details on all the sports available on each of the top DFS sites.

Which DFS game types are available
The best DFS sites on this page all offer different game types, but they can be split into two categories. Most DFS sites these days offer pick’em type games that look kind of like player prop sports wagers. Only a few offer traditional DFS salary cap games that were pioneered by DraftKings and FanDuel.
The sites that offer pick’em games all have different names for their offerings, but that is mostly marketing. The two basic pick’em game types are over/under and matchup. Over/under is just that: you pick whether a player will go over or under an established metric. This is just like a player prop bet at a traditional sportsbook. The matchup option is whether one player will perform better than another player based on a metric.
Pick’em sites also have a standard or flex option, though they sometimes name it differently. Standard means you have to get all your picks correct in order to win, while a flex option allows you to miss one or two picks and still get a reduced payout.
The table below lists the game types offered by each of the best DFS sites reviewed above.

Where is daily fantasy sports legal?
If you’re reading this page, you might be wondering where daily fantasy sports are legal. Similar to sports betting, states can legalize and regulate DFS games as they see fit. Some states have strict regulations outlining exactly which DFS games are legal, while other states don’t have any laws or rules on the books about DFS at all. In those states DFS sites operate without licenses but they are not breaking any laws because DFS is not prohibited.
Five states have explicitly banned DFS sites from operating in their states. DFS fans in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, and Hawaii are sadly out of luck. No traditional DFS sites operate in any of those five states.
While the other 45 states allow for some form of DFS gaming, they do not all allow every type of DFS games. Pick’em games are becoming popular but also attracting scrutiny in some states because of their similarity to player prop sports wagering. A handful of states have prohibited them altogether.
Most states allow those 18 and older to play DFS games, though a few don’t allow anyone under 21 to sign up at DFS sites, similar to sports betting. Below is a list of all the states that allow DFS wagering and which also allow Pick’em games.

Banking options
The number of banking options available at the best DFS sites is limited, especially compared to a traditional sportsbook. Most DFS sites only have a handful of deposit options and usually one or two withdrawal options. This is admittedly a frustrating situation that we thought would have been addressed by now. Things are getting better, as you can see in the table below. DFS sites are listening to their customers and are adding more banking options to ensure players can easily fund their accounts and withdraw funds as quickly as possible.

Best DFS sites versus online sportsbooks
Prior to the rise of pick’em games, there was a huge difference between DFS and online sportsbooks. Back before sports betting was legalized, DFS was the only legal way to “bet” on sports, and millions of people put together lineups every week and enjoyed competing in huge tournaments for big payouts.
Things are different now in more ways than one. Sportsbooks offer player prop bets, which are a wager on whether a player will perform above or below a metric. State regulators approve these bet types and regularly audit whether the type of bet is appropriate. Some states have banned player prop bets on college players, for example. This oversight is necessary and important in order to have a fair sports betting marketplace.
Pick’em sites like PrizePicks offer a surprisingly similar bet type, even allowing users to compete against the house rather than against other players, which is how traditional DFS sites operate. They are doing this while not being subject to the same regulatory scrutiny as licensed sportsbooks, which has caused concern among legislators in several states. Pick’em games are becoming scrutinized due to their similarity to sports betting, so it will be interesting to see where things end up from a regulatory standpoint.
For now, pick’em games remain extremely popular and are a fun way to predict a player’s performance and potentially win a lucrative payout. Traditional DFS games offered by DraftKings and FanDuel are also still very popular, even in the age of sports betting. DFS isn’t going anywhere, though the rules might tighten up a bit, which will end up being a good thing for players and DFS sites alike.
